I am thrilled to have found a partner in crime on the PR front! We've met twice already to go through plans for internet and our on the ground marketing strategies. I love having someone to bounce ideas off of and to help keep me on track. This is an exciting time to be on the marketing team for REST. We're building up from the very bottom, full of enthusiasm and hope. If you're interested in getting involved, please message me (Ky) here on our contact form or on our FB page. I'm looking for a full house of helpers: marketing, video, make-up, hosting, backstage. If none of that interests you, come up with something you can do and TELL me. If all it takes is a bit of work and time, I'm all for it!
We're opening up an Instagram account and prepping our YouTube channel. Crossing my fingers that you'll see multiple platform posts from REST within a month. Again: helpers are MUCH appreciated. :) Looking forward to our 13 March open meeting. I'm planning on making some of my award winning goodies to share, so be sure to bring your sweet tooth! Our games are always a blast to play and watch. Most of all, though, I'm looking forward to meeting everyone. I am on the hunt for enthusiastic and interested people. If you love theater, I've got something you can do to help REST. Don't forget to indicate your interest on our posted Facebook event for 13 March. Let us know if you plan on coming. We'll be looking for you!

REST has an upcoming open meeting on 13 March 2019. Here's what you can expect!
We'll begin with an informal gathering in the lobby; an old fashioned meet 'n greet with refreshments. Come early to enjoy some coffee, tea, and cookies! From there, we'll move into a closed room to begin our meeting. After a brief discussion we'll begin with the real fun of the night: games. There are a couple of games we play while standing in a big circle. One 'passes the go' quickly around the circle using nonsense sounds even the most seasoned players sometimes screw up. Result? Hilarity and fast game play. Another even faster game is designed along the line of the child's challenge to pat your head and rub your tummy at the same time. Players are asked to point, pass, and move across the circle - but the order is mixed up and you'll be laughing at yourself before long as you mess things up over and over. After we're all warmed up from laughing at ourselves, we'll start our favorite improv game. Two players are selected from volunteers. One is a shop keeper, one a customer. The customer is returning a defective item to the shop - only the customer has no idea what that item is! The group selects in secret something on the spot, and the customer must guess the item from clues given in the shop keeper's replies. Don't forget: we're announcing our upcoming production during the meeting. Be there to get all the info first! Wonderful article from The City Academy in London: What is Method Acting?

Scripts, scripts, scripts! The Board met last night to discuss our 2019 season and foremost on all our minds were scripts. We discussed several options, and set a date to make a choice after we've had a chance to sample the texts. Our venue choice was discussed as well, and we're following up on a variety of options.
Set your calendars for 13 March at 19:00! REST is holding an open meeting and everyone is welcome. We'll announce our upcoming production, play games, and do the whole meet and greet evening. The evening will open up with 'tea and bikkies' at 19:00 and at 19:30 we'll get into it. Be sure to attend if you're interested in performing! The scripts we're considering have flexible cast sizes, so there's the possibility of many small roles that can be filled by interested parties. Let us know if you want to get involved! Address: Hogeschool Rotterdam Hoogbouw, Burgemeester S'jacobplein 1 (near Dijkzigt metro station). Meet and greet on ground level (pavilion entrance); we'll head to a room after we've all gathered. Be sure to follow us on Facebook and sign up for our quarterly newsletter to stay on top of all the latest developments! performed by Het Homerostheater
Saturday, 19 January 2019 WORM, Rotterdam Directed Arne Sybren Postma Starring Lara Stanisic and Sandy Topzand Last night I had the privilege of seeing Het Homerostheater's production, The State of Mary, at WORM, Rotterdam. I say privilege with all sincerity; Het Homerostheater has been performing this script for a while, honing it for at least a year. Last night's performance was a culmination of their work. Starring Lara Stanisic and Sandy Topzand, The State of Mary draws on historical works and imagination to create a compelling and fascinating study between Mary Stuart, Queen of Scots and Elizabeth I, the contested heir to the Throne of England. Artfully directed by Arne Sybren Postma, the performance utilized the negative space of the room to their full advantage. An inventive and wonderful modular set design, created by Micah Westera, took center stage in the darkened room and was the perfect foil to this production that effortlessly swung from physical comedy to serious drama and back again. The costumes designed by Greet van Buytene and Joke van de Graaf were a wonderful amalgamation of modern and period, allowing both actors to quickly move between characters scene to scene. The power of Stanisic and Topzand's performances was undeniable. They entered in simple lingerie, greeting each other and the audience as they dressed on stage in preparation for the performance. At a nod they were off, modifying their body language, accents, and costumes scene to scene. We were introduced both Queens: Mary (Stanisic) and Elizabeth (Topzand). When not playing royalty both actors took accompanying roles as ladies' maids, slipping effortlessly into submissive and often very comedic characters. I found myself amazed at this movement back and forth, so much so that I sometimes lost the thread of dialogue because I felt so flabbergasted by the sheer magnitude of what I was witnessing. The script offered the actors ample improvisational latitude and they took full advantage of it, addressing and even using audience members on stage. Last night was a total triumph for all involved, and a total delight for the entire audience. Hello 2019 and, with great sorrow, good-bye to Marlo Kern's Transmission Trilogy. In the words of the playwright herself, the production "felt cursed from the beginning". We had scheduling difficulties from day one. Over the course of a few months, we lost three actors and our venue dates. Combined, it was too much for us to overcome. We hope to revisit the script in future.
I'm late in updating the website and this blog. What can I say? My holiday lights are still up, too. I try to stretch out the holiday season as long as possible. But the olliebollenkraam out front has long since moved on; time for me (and the rest of REST) to do the same. Current plans are to secure venue dates for autumn 2019 and spring 2020, allowing us two performances each year. The Board are considering scripts for autumn 2019 and we hope to make an announcement soon. We're also planning on an open meeting in the coming months. You'll be able to meet us and have some fun. Last note: Don't forget to check out The State of Mary at WORM, Rotterdam, Saturday, 19 January 2019. Tickets are on sale now! I'm going. Are you? Last night we worked on Act 2: UVB-76, scenes 5 and 6. Too busy learning my lines and cues to take pix. But the video camera was rolling, so I should have some footage.
Oh, and scene 5! Middle of the night, full of yawns. Seems I can pull a real yawn out of myself very easily these days. Full empathy for the brothers who have to sit through it and not yawn in return; that's gotta be tough. I set myself off into a yawning fit every time I do it. Mattie is really getting into the zombie mode the brothers fall into. He's so great at that! Georgie was bubbly and effervescent as Chrissa; she seems to get that perfect in every scene. The tension is really building. Can't wait to start adding the sounds from Dark World International. Must get on that this weekend! Michelle and Maria, running through Act 3: Pioneer 10, scene 6.
It's a tough scene to do time after time; Gabbi (Maria) is really freaking out at this point and Val (Michelle) isn't sure how to respond - after all, Gabbi is supposed to be the therapist in this scene, not the other way around. Maria kept the manic energy going and Michelle gave such an uncomfortable response it made us all laugh! Great work; the scene is really coming together! Hoping Fergus gets well quickly; he couldn't make it last night because he's sick. Feel better soon; we need our Ted to grumble his way around the set! ;) |
